COMMENTARY: MATERIALISM—THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
This was the title of a talk by Dr. Dean Radin which sums up the dilemma facing mankind today as our way of life threatens the rivers and the oceans, the air, the quality of food, the existence of other species and eventually our own.
Whether you accept that climate change is caused by carbon emissions or something else, you cannot deny that Spaceship Earth is in big trouble, and that business as usual is no longer an option.
There is nothing wrong with scientific advances and technological progress in themselves. They have brought us incredible benefits in every area of life and most people would not want to go back to life as it was before the industrial revolution. But things have got badly out of balance. We have obscene wealth and abysmal poverty and total disregard for the natural world.
Messages coming from our friends and teachers in Spirit have been warning us for years of the dangers of materialism which Silver Birch defined as follows: “Materialism is, by its very nature, the worship of greed for money and possessions, concerned with the individual’s pleasures and possessions to the exclusion of thought or care for others who share this planet.” (S.Birch).
