COMMENTARY: SPIRITS COMMUNICATING WITH US THROUGH ELECTRONIC DEVICES
In
their wonderful book "There is No Death and There are no Dead" Tom and Lisa Butler point out that spirit people have been using electronic devices to communicate with loved ones since the early 1900s. There have been reports of 'paranormal phone calls' for many years. Scott Rogo and Raymond Bayless
undertook a two-year investigation and published a book about them Phone Calls From the Dead (1979).
During several weeks in 1994,
five American ITC researchers received phone calls from fellow researcher Konstantin Raudive who died in 1974. These were George Meek, Mark Macy, Sarah Estep, Dr. Walter Uphoff and Hans Heckmann (a close friend and colleague of George Meek). In each case, the phone call mentioned the previous phone calls. Listen to a recording of the call to ITC experimenter George Meek. German ITC researcher, Adolf Homes, received a text file on his computer in Germany giving details of all the phone calls. His computer was not connected to the internet and the message simply appeared on the screen. The message said other successful contacts had been made to China and Japan by telephone and fax. Some people have been communicating privately with a loved one via EVP on tape recorders and phones, sometimes with the support of Association Transcommunication. More recently we are getting informal reports of a whole range of electronic contact with the deceased via phones and computers (see Louise Hamlin's book "WhatsApps from Heaven: Bereavement in the Twenty-first Century").
Dr. Imants Barušs and Durra Kadiragha completed a pilot study involving 21 participants who claimed to have received phone calls (35%), photos or videos (20%), text messages (20%), non-vocal sounds during telephone calls or on voicemail (15%), or extraneous voices during telephone calls (10%), from deceased family or friends. Their findings were presented at an online joint meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration and the Parapsychological Association in July 2021. Dr. Barušs has been awarded a $44,500 grant by the Bial Foundation to study these phenomena.
THE NEED FOR DISCERNMENT While these developments are exciting and have enormous potential to reduce grief, as in all things there is a huge need for discernment. Tom Butler of ATransC has produced an excellent white paper on what is now known about Transcommunication. He points out that before attempting to share an example EVP/ITC with untrained witnesses, the example should be passed by a trained witness panel without prompting.
VICKI TALBOTT ON EVP/ITC
Vicki Talbott is a part of a group called The Big Circle that consists of bereaved parents, spouses, siblings, and friends, who communicate with their loved ones in spirit via EVP in joint recording sessions. All services by the Big Circle are given free of charge. In this video, Vicki talks about her mother's deathbed visions and how they were validated by EVP messages from her son Braeden. She then goes on to talk about what constitutes EVP and ITC with reference to the work of Tom Butler, Mark Macy, and Anabela Cardoso and provides helpful references for people starting out as well as giving examples of class A EVPs.
CAN SPIRITS COMMUNICATE IN MORSE CODE? In 1918 Grace Boylan, a mother who had practiced Morse code with her son Bob before he went off to the trenches of World War 1, published a book in which she described receiving a Morse code messge from her son. Bob said that after he died he has been able to get to the enemy's wireless sending station and send a message.

DR ANABELA CARDOSO AND THE ITC JOURNAL Dr. Cardoso began experimenting with EVP in 1997 and soon developed Direct Radio Voices (getting voices through the white noise between radio stations). In 2000 she founded the ITC Journal with an Editorial Board of internationally recognised scientists and researchers of anomalous phenomena. As well as making regular contributions to the Journal and to other international psychical research publications she gave presentations, organised international conferences, and carried out research internationally. KIM AND BRIAN AND LANA - MUTUAL RESCUE
Kim and Brian were devastated by the death of their newborn daughter. Kim found some solace through journaling and networking. Brian, however, became remote and isolated, imprisoned by grief and depression without a support network. Adopting an abandoned dog named Lana finally gives Brian an outlet for his grief and helps save the couple’s drifting marriage. As Brian later expressed it, "Grief is just love with nowhere to go."
Update: Since their story was filmed by Mutual Rescue, Kim and Brian and Lana have welcomed a new member to their family, a baby boy named Noah.
