SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES THAT CHANGE OUR LIVES
A Spiritually Transformative Experience or STE can be defined as one which "causes people to perceive themselves and the world profoundly differently: by expanding the individual’s identity, augmenting their sensitivities, and thereby altering their values, priorities, and appreciation of the purpose of life".
Some people set out to have these experiences through meditation, yoga, drugs, religious practices, dance, eye-movements, drumming, sensory deprivation or prayer. Other experiences can happen spontaneously without expectation, as with near-death situations, out-of-body experiences, kundalini experiences, personal trauma, illness, distress, or crisis.
People often keep these experiences to themselves, thinking they will be considered crazy if they talk about them. But it is very important for people - including therapists - to know that these experiences are perfectly normal - up to 40% of people have them at some time in their life. (Back and Bourque, 1970; Greeley, 1974, 1987; Hay and Morisy, 1978; Hood, 1974, 1975, 1977; Thomas and Cooper, 1980)

SPIRITUALLY TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCES OF SCIENTISTS AND ACADEMICS These experiences can be the ultimate wake-up call for highly skeptical academics and scientists. Dr. Patrizio Tressoldia and Dr. Marjorie Woollacott
analyzed the first-person accounts of Spiritually Transformative Experiences (STEs) of a sample of 40 scientists and academics. Eighty-five percent of experiencers described a dissolution of the boundaries of their personal self; this was experienced by 62.5% as a sense of boundless oneness, with the characteristics of pure unconditional love (45%). As to the nature of reality, 60% also experienced reality as oneness, and 47.5% of the experiencers described its essence as unconditional love, bliss, and light (27.5%), with some describing it as filled with energy, intelligence, and beyond time. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE LOVE

THE STATE OF AFTERLIFE SCIENCE 20 YEARS AGO Those of us who have been researching evidence for the afterlife for many years are so thankful for the explosion of shared knowledge and research that the Internet, which began to transform our lives in the late ‘90s to early 2000s, has made possible. Using the "Wayback Machine" (a site that stores snapshots of websites that may have gone offline) we were able to access an archived version of the website "survivalscience.org" which appears to have been active from 2001 to August 2003. In its day it was one of the better Internet sites that listed evidence for the afterlife. It is certainly interesting to compare it with what is available online today. Check it out.
