COMMENTARY: DO ANY OF THESE APPLY TO YOU? Some of the aftereffects of near-death experiences seem to be similar to the effects of what many of us consider spiritual development achieved in other ways. Check and see how many of those on the following list apply to you, whether you have had an NDE or not.
In Transformed by the Light (1992) Dr. Cherie Sutherland identified many effects that have been substantiated by other studies e.g. Ring (1980 and 1984) Atwater (1988). These included:
• a universal belief in life after death.
• a high proportion (80%) now believed in reincarnation.
• a total absence of fear of death.
• a large shift from organized religion to personal spiritual practice.
• a statistically significant increase in psychic sensitivity.
• a more positive view of self and others.
• an increased desire for solitude.
• an increased sense of purpose.
• a lack of interest in material success coupled with a marked increase in interest in spiritual development.
• fifty percent experienced major difficulties in close relationships as a result of their changed priorities.
• an increase in health consciousness.
• most drank less alcohol.
• almost all gave up smoking.
• most gave up prescription drugs.
• most watched less television.
• most read fewer newspapers.
• an increased interest in alternative healing.
• an increased interest in learning and self-development.
• seventy-five percent experienced a major career change in which they moved towards areas of helping others.
Other effects may be unique to NDErs, among them electrical and chemical sensitivities and the claim that at least 75-78 percent of adult experiencers divorce within seven to ten years of their experience (Atwater 2007:89). Read more on the aftereffects of NDEs from IANDS.

KUNDALINI AWAKENING AND NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES: ARE THEY RELATED? Dr. Yvonne Kason is an internationally renowned medical expert on “Spiritually Transformative Experiences” (STEs) who has had multiple STEs herself, including a Kundalini Awakening and 5 Near-Death Experiences (NDEs). WHEN DID WE HAVE SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE OF CONSCIOUSNESS SURVIVING DEATH? In his prize-winning essay for the Bigelow Essay competition (2021), afterlife historian Michael Tymn claimed that the afterlife had been proved with overwhelming evidence by the year 1900. He created a simulated court trial where he offered the testimony of 11 witnesses, including Judge John Edmonds, Dr. George Dexter, Governor Nathaniel Tallmadge, Professor Robert Hare, Professor James Mapes, Professor Alfred Russel Wallace, Sir William Crookes, Sir William Barrett, Rev. William Stainton Moses, Dr. Richard Hodgson, and Sir Oliver Lodge. He quoted from their reports and books on their psychical research as if they were testifying at a trial. ALAN CHAPMAN ON ENERGY HEALING Alan Chapman is an evidential psychic medium and spiritual healer who runs a very popular Youtube channel on spiritual subjects called Shaman Oaks. In this video, he talks about how he was impressed by the Australian healer Charlie Goldsmith and then experienced energy healing with Paul Jacobs at the Arthur Findlay College.
A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF RESEARCH ON AFTER-DEATH COMMUNICATION
Between 1984 and 2009, researchers published over 35 studies of after-death communication (ADC) involving thousands of people who reported having experienced ADC (ADCrs). Jenny Street-Horn did an outstanding dissertation analysing these studies. Findings include:
# About 1/3 of people report having experienced ADC at some time in their lives.

PAST LIFE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN TWINS In his investigation of children who remember past lives, Dr. Ian Stevenson (pictured) came upon 40 sets of twins. In 31 cases they were able to identify who the twins had been in their previous life. Of every one of these 31 pairs, the previous persons had known each other in some way. Five pairs had been married to each other, eleven had been siblings—two of them twins—six had been relatives of other kinds and nine had been friends, acquaintances, or business associates". Such cases hold implications for understanding the factors involved in personality development and behaviour, suggesting that past lives play a role in addition to heredity and environment. DR. CRAIG HOGAN'S PERSPECTIVE ON PAST LIVES Craig Hogan, Ph.D. maintains that our Higher Self has many individuals who come into earth school and other planes of existence. "As an individual's life is being planned, the planning group draws from other people's lives in the Higher Self to provide a context for lessons or a framework for the new life. The new life then grows on earth and can have a past-life regression in which the person retrieves knowledge about that other individual's life. However, each of us remains the individual we are through the rest of forever".
THE IMPORTANCE OF DEATHBED VISIONS In his book Parting Visions, Dr. Melvin Morse made the following observations:
• family members who know about the visions of the dying are known to spend more time at the dying person's bedside.
• spiritual visions empower dying patients making them realize that they have something to share with others.
• spiritual visions remove all fear of dying in the patient and are enormously healing to the relatives.
• they can prevent burnout on the part of nurses and doctors.
• if attended to, they can dramatically reduce wasteful medical procedures that are often painful to the patient.
Morse claims that 30-60% of the American healthcare dollar is spent in the last few days of a person's life, and 'most of it is spent in useless procedures that do nothing to prolong life' (Morse and Perry 1994:136).

SUPERSTAR BARBARA STREISAND RECEIVED MESSAGES FROM HER DEAD FATHER The magnificent Barbara Streisand says she is a firm believer in the afterlife. The star who has had numerous singing and film successes, says her inspiration for the hit movie “Yentl” came from her father, who spoke to her from beyond the grave. Her father died when she was only 15 months old, but she claims to have received two messages from her father in 1979, four years before Yentl was released.
She said: “The first one was “Sorry”, which was astounding because I was angry with him for dying and leaving me. The second message was “Sing proud”. I know it sounds crazy, but it was my father telling me to have the courage of my convictions. I made Yentl. And I did sing proud.
At the time, Streisand says she was trying to decide whether to direct and star in Yentl, a story about a Jewish girl who disguises herself as her dead brother Anshel so she can study to become a rabbi. A few days before, she had made her first visit to her father’s grave. In an astonishing coincidence, it was next to that of a man named Anchel! LIFE BEYOND LIFE FILM FESTIVAL
The 2023 Life Beyond Life Film Festival welcomes clips, short films, medium-length films, documentary films, video arts, and cartoons. They will be judged and the best films given awards. The films are teaching people that death is not be the end, but only the threshold to continue our everlasting existence in other realms. The conviction is that cinema is the perfect channel to explore issues related to the Afterlife, because it immerses viewers in the experience and has the strength of life images in motion. The festival is a way to encourage cinematography by choosing the best films in each category.
