COMMENTARY: HAVE WE ALL LIVED PAST LIVES? While reincarnation is a central principle of Eastern religions such as Hinduism,Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, until fairly recently the idea of past lives was greeted with skepticism and ridicule in the West.
However, a number of lines of evidence have made it increasingly accepted - in one form or another. The evidence includes children who remember past lives, people whose dreams of past lives uncover unknown evidence, past-life regressions that result in healings, between-life regressions, and pre-birth memories that are later verified. Also, we learn that past lives feature in out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences, mediumship readings, in healing, and in channeling.
However there is still a huge debate over the form reincarnation takes. Is it just a fragment of our soul that reincarnates? Is there always a greater part of our soul in the afterlife that meets our loved ones when they cross over? If there is no time in the afterlife, do we live multiple lives at the same time? Have we had lives on other planets, in other dimensions? Does everyone reincarnate? And do animals reincarnate or enter human evolution?
By exploring different aspects of the evidence the hope is that we may begin to open up to a more complete picture of what consciousness truly is. Perhaps it will reshape how we see our relationships, our purpose, and even our moral responsibilities to one another and to the animal kingdom.
CHILDREN WHO REMEMBER PAST LIVES
THE WORK OF IAN STEPHENSON The leading scientific researcher of children's past lives was Dr. Ian Stevenson. He was a psychiatrist and parapsychologist working at the Division of Personality Studies (DOPS) at the University of Virginia. He was funded by Chester Carlson, the inventor of the Xerox machine, to travel to various parts of the world to collect and study cases of young children who reported memories of past lives. He interviewed over four thousand children from the United States, England, Thailand, Burma, Turkey, Lebanon, Canada, India, and other places.
To show that reincarnation cases occur in European cultures where fewer people believed in it, Dr Ian Stevenson wrote his last book European Cases of the Reincarnation Type (2003).

A SKEPTICAL JOURNALIST TRAVELLED BESIDE HIM
An editor for the Washington Post, Tom Shroder, investigated Dr. Ian Stevenson's work. Initially a skeptic, he travelled with Stevenson through Lebanon, India, and Virginia on research expeditions in 1998. In the video below, he talks about cases from his book "Old Souls: The Scientific Search for Proof of Past Lives" which contains examples of children remembering names of family members, phone numbers, towns they lived in, how they died, and some even having birthmarks connected to the way that they died.
KEY FINDINGS IN MOST OF IAN STEVENSON'S CASES Dr. Ian
Stevenson found the following were true of most of the cases he investigated:
• age when the memories appear—usually between two and four
• age when memory fades—almost always between five and eight
• child behaves like an adult
• claims the new body feels strange
• vivid events are remembered
• About 70% of children with past life memories recall dying by murder, suicide, or accident
•35% show intense fear related to the manner of death — similar to PTSD symptoms.
• children show fear of objects connected with previous death
• when children visit their previous home they can point out changes
• often the mother or someone else in the family can remember a dream in which they were told that the coming child was a reincarnation.
• the mothers began to like strange foods during their pregnancy which were the same as the foods liked by the person in the previous life.
• the child has skills not taught or learned
• some have birthmarks or deformities in the same place as a previous life injury.
DR. JIM TUCKER CONTINUED THE WORK
After Dr. Stevenson transitioned in 2007, researchers at the Division of Perceptual Studies, headed by Dr. Jim B. Tucker, continued to investigate cases of children with past-life memories. Dr. Tucker published his findings in: Life Before Life: Children's Memories of Previous Lives (2008) "Return to Life: Extraordinary Cases of Children Who Remember Past Lives" (2013)

PAST LIFE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN TWINS In his investigation of children who remembered past lives, Dr. Ian Stevenson came upon 40 sets of twins. In 31 cases they were able to identify who the twins had been in their previous life. In every one of these 31 pairs, the twins had known each other in some way in a previous life. Five pairs had been married to each other, eleven had been siblings like the Pollock twins pictured. Two of them had already been twins—six had been relatives of other kinds and nine had been friends, acquaintances, or business associates". Such cases hold implications for understanding the factors involved in personality development and behaviour, suggesting that past lives play a role in addition to heredity and environment. THE WORK OF CAROL BOWMAN
Carol Bowman, M.S., is an internationally known author, lecturer, counselor, past life regression therapist, and pioneer in reincarnation studies. Her books, 'Children’s Past Lives' (Bantam, 1997) and 'Return from Heaven' (HarperCollins, 2001) are now classics in the reincarnation field and have been published and read around the world in 22 foreign editions. Her personal experiences as well as those of her children made her privy to the phenomenon of reincarnation and started a life-long interest and career in it.

There are many documentaries about Children's past lives in documentaries and on YouTube. The Ghost Inside My Child (BIO / LMN, 2013–2014) is a series that shares stories of young children having memories that seem to belong to someone else. Question: There is a lot of controversy regarding reincarnation. Would it not be wiser to concern ourselves with survival?
Answer: It is better to be in the light than in the dark. It is better to have knowledge than ignorance. It is better to know the laws than not to know the laws. It is better always to search for truth, diligently and patiently, rather than to sit still. It is always better to strive for progress. Survival is not the end, it is only the beginning, for when you understand that you are a part of the Great Spirit and because of that you pass through the avenue of death, unharmed and unchanged, that is not the end of all things. That is only the beginning.
