COMMENTARY: HAPPY HALLOWEEN
In many places Halloween will be celebrated today (or tomorrow). People will be dressing up in costumes, connecting with their communities, and making fun of their fears. It is kids and families and communities having fun together and generating a lot of happy memories.
As one of our members posted on our Facebook forum, "Halloween is our chance to make fun of superstition. I don’t think the children think about the afterlife at all. But, monsters have to be seen as imaginary and laughed at. I think it quells the superstition that tends to plague mankind and may help to alleviate the natural fear of death". In some parts of the world, the focus is on joining together to remember and celebrate departed loved ones, a point which is also very important in a death-denying society. So however you celebrate it, our very best wishes to all our friends who are joining together in community this weekend.
