COMMENTARY: REINCARNATION IS MAKING A COMEBACK
When we first began investigating the afterlife nearly 30 years ago, the idea of reincarnation was highly controversial. British Spiritualism largely rejected it unlike the Spiritists in France who had embraced it since Allan Kardec's The Spirits' Book in 1857. Many Spiritualists considered it a cruel teaching, imagining that it meant that when we die we could well find our loved ones had reincarnated and were out of reach. Or they felt it was not true because many spirit communicators claimed that they have never met anyone who had been reincarnated.
In recent times, the evidence suggesting some kind of reincarnation for at least some people has increased. We now have large numbers of cases involving: children who remember past lives, dreams of past lives, past-life regressions, between-life regressions, and pre-birth memories. At the same time, we are hearing accounts of reincarnation coming up in near-death experiences where experiencers are told that they 'signed up' for difficult life experiences in after-death contacts in readings by mediums in out-of-body journeys and in teachings by enlightened masters.
However, there has also been a development in understanding that our loved ones will always be available to us on the other side and that while part of our soul may reincarnate, part of us always remains in the spirit world. We are also told that we incarnate voluntarily with other members of our soul family.
SILVER BIRCH ON REINCARNATION Spirit teacher Silver Birch (speaking on behalf of a collective of advanced spirits) explains it like this: "People can be in our world for what you call ages and still be unaware of this truth...You will find that the higher the ascent in this spiritual scale, the more recognition is there of the fact that there is reincarnation because it happens, but not in the facile form that is so often propounded...You have heard me say many times that the personality expressed on earth is only a fragment of the total individuality. I have compared it to facets of a large diamond. Facets can incarnate and others can reincarnate". DR. JIM TUCKER SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE OF REBIRTH
Children can have verifiable past life memories that can be independently corroborated. They can present specific names, places, and events that they never had a chance to learn about. The specifics can be confirmed by going back years in the public records. Birthmarks and birth defects can show up at the place in the body of the reincarnated child where weapon wounds caused their often violent or traumatic death in their past life. Dr. Julia Assante claims that these are the only examples of re-incarnation because in these cases the children seem to be continuing the same identity with almost full memory of a previous life.
DR. IAN STEPHENSON FOUND THE FOLLOWING WERE TRUE IN MOST OF THE CASES HE INVESTIGATED • age when the memories appear—usually between two and four
• age when memory fades—almost always between five and eight
• the child behaves like an adult
• claims the new body feels strange
• vivid events are remembered
• a large percentage of the cases remember a violent death
• children show fear of objects connected with previous death
• when children visit their previous home they can point out changes
• often the mother or someone else in the family can remember a dream in which they were told that the coming child was a reincarnation.
• the mothers began to like strange foods during their pregnancy which were the same as the foods liked by the person in the previous life.
• the child has skills not taught or learned
• some have birthmarks or deformities in the same place as a previous life injury.
A FASCINATING PRE-BIRTH COMMUNICATION
Dr. Rafael Rezende talks about autism as a father of two autistic children, a researcher, and someone with autism himself. Struggling to have children, he and his wife turned to IVF and had three embryos implanted. Surprisingly all three were born, but during the pregnancy each came through to him in a dream with an important pre-birth message telling them their name and, in the case of his son, about his past existence.
ARTHUR YENSEN'S NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE
In August of 1932, Arthur Yensen, had a near-death experience. His talks about what he discovered often brought criticism, especially from the church of the day. ALFRED HIGGINS TALKS ABOUT THE AFTERLIFE
Alfred Higgins died by falling from a ladder so when he tried to get a message to his wife he showed the medium a ladder. But the medium interpreted it as a sign of coming success. When Alfred came through direct voice medium Lesley Flint, he gave this example of the difficulties spirits have in communicating through some mediums.
PERSONAL DESCRIPTIONS OF DYING "The actual act of dying is as simple as dozing off after lunch. A drowsy feeling fills the whole of your body with relaxing comfort. You can still see, with your earthly eyes the room about you. Then you notice that there are all kinds of new people standing around your bed, people that you once knew, such as parents, a favorite uncle, a friend who passed over many years sooner. The joy of seeing them again takes your mind off everything else. They take you by the hand and lift you to your feet. This invariably causes you to look back at the bed and to your surprise, you or your mortal shell is still lying there. CONNECTING WITH A LOVED ONE ON THE OTHER SIDE
When someone asked Joe McQuillen why they had not had any contact from a loved one on the other side, he asked them what they had done to raise their vibrations to a level that makes contact easier. SPIRITIST HOSPITALS IN BRAZIL Our topic at the Zoom Global Gathering this week is Spiritist hospitals in Brazil. They are unique because they integrate conventional medical treatment with spiritual healing practices based on Spiritism. During the 20th century, 54 Spiritist hospitals that treat both medical and psychiatric illnesses were created. They combine conventional medical treatment with complementary spiritual therapies including prayer, meditation, spiritual counseling, and healing practices performed by trained mediums.
