COMMENTARY: WHERE DID RELIGIONS GET THEIR INFORMATION ABOUT THE AFTERLIFE?
In his book, The Psychic Stream, historian Arthur Findlay argues convincingly that all religions formed their ideas about the afterlife in exactly the same way that we do today: through near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, after-death contacts, transpersonal experiences, mediumship and channelling from advanced consciousness.
Today we have the advantage of being able to collect many more accounts of afterlife contact and confirm them through the processes used to sift evidence. We examine the primary sources and the credibility and reliability of the witnesses. We can triangulate across multiple streams of evidence including new ones that have come about because of advances in technology with electronic voice phenomena and Instrumental Trans-Communication.
Unfortunately, we are unable to do that with the sources from which religions claim to get their information. All we have are fragments of very old documents, the originals of which are lost in the mists of time. We are also unable to place many of the writings in their full context since the original teachings have been lost or distorted through (sometimes deliberate) mistranslations.
This does not mean that religion does not have anything to offer
- quite the opposite, as all religions teach that there is an afterlife and have at their heart the practice of unconditional love. However when it comes to the nature of the afterlife, some of them have not had the advantage of access to the evidence we have today.

MATERIALISATION IN DAYLIGHT IN THE 1950s Spiritualism was founded on physical mediumship, the most spectacular form of which is materialisation.
The book The Technique of Daylight Materialization is surely one of the most important books ever written. It contains stunning eyewitness accounts and reports by credible witnesses of materialisations of loved ones (and animals) that occurred around Rev. James Jacob Dickson in San Francisco.
Rev. Dickson claimed that he was born with this very rare ability and that his parents talked to materialised spirits around his cradle (present-day physical medium Marion Dampier-Jeans reports that the same thing happened when she was born). ALMOST FORGOTTEN PHYSICAL MEDIUMS FROM THE USA
While many of our readers are familiar with the wonderful work of independent direct-voice medium Leslie Flint, few would have heard of the incredible Mrs. Elizabeth Blake. Based in Ohio, USA, she worked non-stop for nearly sixty years, from 1860 to 1920. In that time it is claimed that she sat for more than 200,000 people. Fortunately, a comprehensive (over 200 pages) record of her work written by a top investigator has been preserved in the Proceedings of the American Society for Psychical Research (download a pdf copy). Except for her night circles, which she held usually when requested, she sat in broad daylight. N. Riley Heagarty has made available a record of her work in his wonderful book 'The Direct Voice'.
INDUCED AFTER-DEATH COMMUNICATION
For 20 years, Dr. Allan Botkin Had treated patients at a Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Chicago. He utilized EMDR--eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing--a widely used and proven method of treating PTSD. One day, while treating patients he stumbled upon something peculiar. His patient, Sam, a Vietnam vet, revealed that he had seen and spoken to a child he was very close to. grateful people are usually spiritual people, ever ready to serve others,
and therefore on the path to a spiritual mountaintop, whether they know it
or not.
