COMMENTARY: AFTER-DEATH COMMUNICATIONS
When we talk about the afterlife in a small group, about half of the people there will share that they have seen, heard, or felt a deceased loved one
soon after they transitioned. They say that they saw them standing at the end of the bed, in the hallway, or even sitting next to them in their car. Some will say that they heard their voice warning them in a difficult situation.
Spontaneous communication from a deceased person without the aid of a medium is called after-death communication (ADC) and there have been over 35 formal studies of such events going back to 1894 when a study recorded 32,000 cases, 17,000 in English. It was published in Volume X of the Society for Psychical Research Proceedings (1894). ADCs have happened in every culture and every time.
But whereas near-death experiences (NDEs) have reached mainstream awareness, fewer people seem to know about ADCs.
One of the reasons for this seems to be that, in our materialistic society, most people are afraid to talk about their experiences. The common fear is that they will be thought to be mentally unbalanced.
EVIDENCE THAT ADCS ARE NOT HALLUCINATIONS Ken Vincent examined 1667 published ADC cases and found that 336 (20.1%) could be considered evidential. These cases fall into three commonly researched categories: (1) Apparitions appearing before the experiencer’s knowledge of the death of their loved one (APD) numbered 180, (10.8%) of the sample.
(2) Apparitions appearing to multiple witnesses (AMW) numbered 57, (3.4%) of the sample.
(3) Apparitions that convey knowledge unknown to the experiencer that is later proven to be true (AKU) numbered 99, (5.9%) of the sample. Read Ken Vincent's excellent analysis.
THE OPEN-MINDED SKEPTICS GUIDE TO AFTER-DEATH CONTACTS
After Professor Sylvia Hart Wright's husband Paul died in 1983, Wright and her son jointly had an experience that suggested that Paul was trying to contact them. At this time two of his male friends reported similar events. This was startling to people steeped in the scientific method and agnosticism! Scholar that she was, Wright started researching the writings of doctors and social scientists on such phenomena and in time interviewed almost a hundred healthy, everyday people who had sensed contact with the dead. "When Spirits Come Calling: The Open-Minded Skeptic’s Guide to After-Death Contacts, is the book which grew out of this work." Read the first chapter.
Professor Wright left her position at the City University of New York in 1991 to devote herself full time to afterlife research.
COMMUNICATIONS THROUGH WHATSAPP
Louise Hamlin was a solicitor and then a law fellow and lecturer at Cambridge University. In 2006, she moved down to Dorset to start a new life, but suddenly and unexpectedly her husband died. In her immense grief, she started to recognize signs that her husband was sending her that could only have come from him.
Her book "WhatsApps from Heaven: Bereavement in the Twenty-first Century" is a book about bereavement and also about the many extraordinary happenings and signs from the afterlife that then followed.
TYPES OF SPONTANEOUS AFTER-DEATH COMMUNICATION
Recent research shows that people who die make their presence known in some of the following ways.
(1) Sensing their presence
(2) Hearing their voice
(3) Feeling their touch
(4) Smelling something associated with them
(5) Seeing them as if they were real
(6) Seeing a flat vision of them like a photo
(7) Experiencing one of these while half-asleep
(8) Having a visit in a dream- but the dream is unusually vivid and you do not forget it like a normal dream
(9) Having an out-of-body experience and meeting them
(10) Receiving a telephone call from the person who died (two-way conversations have been reported.)
(11) Experiencing electrical appliances such as lights, doorbells, TVs, and radios going on and off
(12) Receiving a symbolic message, sign, meaningful coincidence, or synchronicity.
MESSAGE FROM DAD SAVES A CHILD'S LIFE
Judy Guggenheim talks with John Edward about how she and later her husband Bill Guggenheim discovered After-Death Communication. Their 1997 book "Hello From Heaven" did a great deal to raise awareness of ADCs.
THE MESSAGES THEY SEND US
Our loved ones on the other side may have to take lessons on how to send us messages - some are better at it than others. They want to let us know that they are fine, that they are still living, just in a different location, and that they have met up with friends and loved ones. They also want to assure us that we'll be reunited with them when our time comes. They want us to remember the happy times and go on with our lives and, in particular, they ask us NOT to grieve for them.
ERIC ZIMMERMAN - "BEYOND CHANCE"
In some cases, particularly soon after a person has transitioned to spirit, they have fully materialised and been able to comfort a loved one. In this case, Fred & Marilyn Zimmerman heard, saw, and felt their police officer son, Eric, soon after he was killed. Later they were able to confirm what they had experienced in a comforting detailed reading with well-known medium George Anderson.
COLLECTION OF ADC CASES
The After Death Communication Research Foundation conducted by Jody Long and Dr. Jeff Long asks people to send in, through the Internet, details of their after-death communication. It contains more than 1800 recent cases from all over the world. It also has information about grief and life after death.
DREAM VISITS
Researchers in cross-cultural studies found that about half of all reported spontaneous psychic experiences occurred in dreams and that dream visits are the most frequently reported method of after-death communication. Usually the loved one appears healthy and much younger. Unlike normal dreams, these contact dreams don’t fade with time. They are incredibly vivid and you will be able to remember details even years later.
SIGNS FROM SPIRIT: THE WORK OF JOSEPH M. HIGGINSJoe Higgins, a medium and teacher of mediumship, has brought relief and comfort to countless people over the years and he has worked on missing person cases, cold cases, and murder investigations, as well as connecting clients to their loved ones, who have passed to the other side. He has written four superb books:
1) 'Hello...Anyone Home? : A Guide on How Our Deceased Loved Ones Try to Contact Us through the Use of Signs'.
2) 'The Everything Guide to Evidence of the Afterlife: A scientific approach to proving the existence of life after death'.
3) 'Always Connected for Veterans: Deceased Vets Give Guidance From The Other Side' and
4) 'I Got Your Message: Understanding Signs From Deceased Loved Ones' (Always Connected Series).
"CALLING EARTH" - OFFICIAL PREVIEW Daniel Drasin media producer, filmmaker, photographer, audio producer, and writer
has had a long-standing interest in paranormal phenomena and anomalous experiences. This started as a result of numerous precognitive dreams during his childhood. Dan eventually became a keen investigator of the UFO phenomenon and later developed an abiding interest in various facets of afterlife research. He has had experiences of after-death communication but his documentaries "Calling Earth", and "Scole: The Afterlife Experiment", focus on other kinds of communicaiton which provide wonderful objective evidence of the afterlife.
Dan will be our guest on next Sunday's Zoom Global Gathering at 5 p.m. EASTERN time, 2 p.m. PACIFIC time 7 a.m. Monday Sydney time on https://zoom.us/j/7595442928 (see more times below).
PSYCHIC HISTORY: MAGNIFICENT MEDIUM W.T. STEAD (1849-1912) William T. Stead, a well-known editor, author, social reformer, and automatist was a great champion of Spiritualism. He obtained proof of survival through a long communication through automatic writing from a Miss Julia Ames, an American editor friend who had died previously. Messages from the living were also obtained by his hand. Through the efforts of his spirit friend, "Julia", a Bureau was opened in 1909 giving free sittings to people anxious to establish communication.
After he drowned in the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, he came through to his daughter Estelle via a direct voice medium Etta Wriedt, where he spoke about what happened to him in his own voice for 20 minutes. In 1918 he came through a developing medium, Mr. Woodman, who found that he had the power of automatic writing. Stead and others were soon able to write through him, as long as his daughter Estelle was present. In this way, he wrote a book about the experiences of the survivors of the Titanic. You can read a pdf copy of this wonderful book
"The Blue Island". Download pdf here. This book will be the subject of discussion in our monthly book club next Thursday, May 4th 2023 at 5 p.m. Pacific time (see details below). Feel free to join in.

Global Gathering: Our guest Daniel Drasin is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, photographer and media producer. Since the early 1990s, as featured in his documentaries Calling Earth, and Scole: The Afterlife Experiment, Drasin has been actively investigating the field of afterlife communication through traditional mental and physical mediumship as well as modern electronics.
Dan will be talking about his book A New Science of the Afterlife available for pre-order now. The book
• Explores 15 promising avenues of post-materialist scientific investigation currently underway
• Provides a succinct account of the experience of transition to the “next life” and what one might expect when one arrives there
• Explains how materialism has prevented us from realizing a deeper understanding of the nature of space, time, life, death, and consciousness.

What If? With Cheryl Page
First Tuesday/ Wednesday of every month
Cheryl Page is a medical researcher and medium who dares to ask questions about what is possible with mediumship. She suggests that we inadvertently cut ourselves off from the nearly infinite possibilities that Spirit brings when we are rigid about the “right” way to practice mediumship and is looking for interested mediums or those developing to join her in some fascinating experiments.

SIGNS FROM SPIRIT WITH MEDIUM MATT FRASER
Matt is a very popular medium who seems to have a particular connection with younger audiences.
THE POWER OF PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
" You cannot convince people of spiritual truth. They can only convince themselves. You cannot convert people; they can only convert themselves. Spiritual power must work its own will, and not until the soul is receptive can the individual accept the truth". Guidance from Silver Birch, '66 p.73.
FEEDBACK: Three only
1)
"I have this fantastic book. [Power of the Spirit by Maurice Barbanell, 1989] We came so forward and somehow have been pedaling backward now for many years.
The afterlife should be common acceptance by humanity now". Av
2)" It blows my mind how the mountain of evidence is dismissed". Ian
3) "Until 2010 the possibility of an afterlife never even entered my mind. I was neither for nor against it. I was interested in metaphysical things but not that. On Feb 3, 2010, the morning of the cremation of my husband who died on Jan 28, 2010, I was woken up at 4:30 a.m. by a presence in my bedroom. First, I thought an Intruder, but none of my dogs who slept in the bedroom with me made a sound. Then I felt the presence touching me and I knew it was my husband who came to say goodbye to me. We could not say goodbye in the hospital because he was in a coma for 3 weeks. Since then I had a few more unexpected visits from him, my father, and some of my pets. This was also the time I started researching Life after Death and subscribed to about 5 (believable to me) Afterlife Researchers. And nothing has swayed me from this path ever since. I don't have to believe. I KNOW." Lee
HIGHLY INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC:
"WE ARE THE WORLD"
The death this week of Harry Belafonte reminds us of the backstory of
"We Are the World" which began with his eye-opening visit to Africa during the famine of the early 1980s. He later said: "What struck me about that experience was not so much about the tragedy of the event itself but that there was a world that sat by with such indifference.”
When
Belafonte returned to America he rallied some of his celebrity friends to create a fund-raising campaign. “We Are The World” written by Michael Jackson was part of a benefit concert for Belafonte’s USA For Africa campaign. The album featuring the song went on to sell more than 20 million copies worldwide and raise around $60 million for health needs in Africa. Belafonte is remembered as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and one of the leading human rights activists in show business.
