MORE ABOUT JOSÉ MEDRADO José Medrado is a Brazilian physical medium (as was Chico Xavier) and a dedicated Spiritist. In his early years, he produced full materialisations (see photos in the video about his life below). However, after some time, he found it too much strain on his body.
The painter Renoir came to him with a proposition to "turn paint into bread" to fund the orphanage which Medrado had taken over at age 17. To demonstrate the power of spirit, and to raise funds for his ongoing charity work, Medrado goes into a trance and allows a group of painters in spirit to paint through him. The works are then offered to those present at his demonstrations by auction.

THE PRESENCE OF SPIRITS
Medrado is a medium, not a painter or an illusionist. On one occasion when he described himself as a painter, the spirits did not show up that night at his demonstration. Instead they were waiting for him at his home saying "We were curious to see what you could do on your own".
THINGS YOU MIGHT NOTICE
When Medrado gets ready to paint, and during the demonstrations, some members of the audience can perceive a distinct smell of ether.
The wet paints do not run together like normal paints.
During the sessions his body jolts when each painter arrives and leaves.
NO phones are to be used DURING the event as sudden lights can affect the medium.
THE SOCIAL WORK OF THE CITY OF LIGHT
Spiritist medium José Medrado explains that paintings done by a group of famous painters-in-spirit working though him are auctioned to provide for the maintenance of the social work programs in The City of Light in Salvador Brazil - see www.CidadeDaLuz.com.br where he works on a huge number of programs supported by over 200 volunteers.
Many years ago Medrado was told that if any monies meant for the City of Light were were not used for that purpose the painters would no longer co-operate. All monies from this event after payment of hall hire will go direct to the City of Light.
BUYING A PAINTING There are usually 10 paintings on offer at auction at the end of a demonstration. They are a unique memento of an extraordinary event and a wonderful talking point for your home or church. They need to be sold at a price that justifies the cost of the tour and the art supplies and actually raises money for ongoing work of The City of Light.
