COMMENTARY: RELIGIONS IMPOSE THEIR OWN CONDITIONS FOR "ETERNAL LIFE"
Apart from the fact that there is no hell for eternity, (a topic for another day) the Bible claims that someone asked Jesus, "What good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?" he told people exactly what is essential for people to go to "heaven".
Jesus' response was to be a good, loving, unselfish person -- in his OWN WORDS:
1. "Thou shalt do no murder",
2. "Thou shalt not commit adultery",
3. "Thou shalt not steal",
4. "Thou shalt not bear false witness",
5. "Honor thy father and mother",
6. "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
JESUS DID NOT SAY that:
1. You must believe that he is the second person in the Trinity.
2. You must accept him as your personal savior.
3. You must be baptized.
4. You must believe that a book that will be initially compiled in 300 years and finalised in 1500 years that will be called 'the Bible' that will be the only inspired word of God.
What we learn from Near-Death Experiences, channelled teaching, modern science and examination of the sources, is that the afterlife is a matter of physics not faith. Everyone naturally has eternal life and the thing that determines our future state is how much love and kindness we show.
Followers of Spiritualism generally regard Jesus as a brother, an "exemplar",
a highly evolved spiritual master who incarnated to demonstrate the ultimate laws of love, truth, and psychic power, and a new way to relate to God.
ARTHUR FINDLAY AND THE HISTORY OF THE BIBLE Orthodox Christians must have been shocked when Arthur Findlay's book "The Rock of Truth" was published in 1933. The information it contained was well known in academic circles, but for the first time was shared widely in the popular press.
People learned that Jesus was declared to be divine by a vote at the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. The first vote was negative, but after the opposition had been expelled, a second vote was held where the motion was carried.
Findlay points out that it was important for Emperor Constantine to achieve a positive vote since, at that time, all Roman Emperors were declared to be gods after their death and, if Christianity was to be the state religion of the Roman Empire, it needed to be headed by a god. Jon realised that the Padgett messages and Helen Schucman's A Course in Miracles, reportedly dictated by Jesus, contradict the key tenets of Christianity. Key points of conflict include the divinity of Jesus, original sin, vicarious atonement (the idea that Jesus died for our sins), and hell for eternity. He found that high profile Biblical scholars like Bart Ehrman came to the same conclusions.
