COMMENTARY: THE MAGNIFICENT SCOLE EXPERIMENT Last year was the 30th anniversary of the starting of The Scole Experiment (1993-1998), the longest-running, most extensive, and most rigorously documented demonstration of afterlife communication ever conducted. Now might be a good time to remind people about its spectacular achievements and re-evaluate its significance.
It began in Scole, a village in Norfolk, England, where a small group of people with decades of experience in mental mediumship began sitting together. The 'core' Scole Group comprised Sandra Foy and Robin Foy, the 'witnesses' and 'recorders' of the Scole phenomena; and two talented mental mediums, Diana and Alan Bennett.
Soon they began communicating with a spirit team through the Bennetts. Working together, the teams developed dozens of highly evidential experiments including messages and images from the other side impressed onto photographic film, audio and video tape, as well as physical apports in such a huge number and variety that they felt scientists would have to sit up and take notice. The Group traveled widely, taking their experimental sessions to many places and people worldwide. Over 1,000 hours of sittings were conducted in England, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain (Ibiza), Switzerland, and the USA.
During the five years of the Scole Experiment, hundreds of visitors, including a variety of scientists and engineers — as well as the four top investigators from the Society for Psychical Research — attested to witnessing an unprecedented demonstration of communications and physical manifestations across the veil.
THE SCOLE DOCUMENTARY Dan Drasin worked with Tim Coleman on the most comprehensive video about the Scole experiment of which the "Directors Cut" is titled "SCOLE: THE AFTERLIFE EXPERIMENT (2009). It brilliantly captures the energy of the team and of the wonderful open-minded scientists whose paradigms were forever changed by what they witnessed. MONTAGUE KEEN PRINCIPAL SCOLE INVESTIGATOR
Montague Keen was a brilliant psychic researcher, journalist, agricultural administrator, magazine editor, and farmer. He was also a member of the Council of the Society for Psychical Research for 55 years, chairman of its Image and Publicity Committee, and secretary of its Survival Research Committee. He was the principal investigator of the Scole Group of physical mediums, and author of The Scole Report, published in the Proceedings of the SPR (Vol 54 Pt 220) in 1999 with his co-investigators Professors Arthur Ellison and David Fontana.
MONTAGUE KEEN ENDORSES THE SCOLE EXPERIMENT - FROM THE AFTERLIFE
Three weeks after he died, Montague Keen materialized through the physical mediumship of David Thompson. He had previously investigated David's mediumship and had written a very favourable report. He was someone who from 57 years of research knew what to expect after death - but his words to her were: "It’s everything that I thought it would be, and so much more." PROFESSOR DAVID FONTANA
David Fontana was a prolific writer and teacher in the area of parapsychology in England. He was also president of the Society for Psychical Research for three years and was very active in the field. His magnificent 496 page Is There An Afterlife published in 2005 contains a substantial first-hand account and analysis of the Scole phenomena (pp. 324-351)

AN EVIDENTIAL AFTER-DEATH CONTACT
In 2005 in Nashville, Tennessee, Faye Aldridge, lost her husband, Burke, to cancer. On the last day of Burke's life, he told Faye he would send her a fax from heaven to let her know he was all right. A short time after Burke's death, he made good on his promise by appearing separately to two of his doctors, who told Faye about their contacts in a fax.
A SON TALKS TO HIS MOTHER FROM THE AFTERLIFE
David Browning crossed into the afterlife and, several years later, carried on regular conversations with his mother and father through Leslie Flint, a direct voice medium. This is a very rare kind of mediumship, completely different from trance mediumship. Leslie's sessions were all held in the dark as the voices came through an artificial voice box made out of a substance called ectoplasm, which is sensitive to light. A PSYCHIATRIST TALKS ABOUT AFTER-DEATH CONTACTS Dr. Daniel Benor used to think that people who had after- death contacts were suffering delusions until he read an article in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 1988 that claimed that two out of three people experienced them and that they are extremely helpful.
