COMMENTARY: SPIRIT COMMUNICATION THROUGH ELECTRONIC DEVICES
For more than 50 years experimenters all over the world have been tape-recording 'paranormal voices'—voices that cannot be heard when a tape recorder is playing, but that can be heard when the tape is played back. The experimenter turns on the tape recorder and asks a question, leaving a space for an answer. When the tape is played back, an answer is sometimes heard. This is called the electronic voice phenomena or EVP.

Many of the messages claim to be from loved ones who have died. Sometimes they use the experimenter's name and answer specific questions. The Association Transcommunication insists that the voices must be studied scientifically and not treated as a form of amusement or sensationalism. Led by Tom and Lisa Butler they have undertaken scientific studies of EVP - read more.

One of the beauties of this method is that almost anyone can learn how to record EVPs. Sheri Perl has created an EVP Slide Show which explains how people can get started as well as examples of her own EVP experiments using different sound sources. John Wright was one of several of our subscribers who were able to use it to establish regular long-term meaningful communication with a crossed over spouse.

THE ATRANSC - BIG CIRCLE
Here are some stories told by people who have recorded the voice of their loved one using electronic voice phenomena (EVP). The Big Circle is a name given by Martha Copeland's daughter, Cathy, for people in the physical and in the etheric who help one another in life. CALLING EARTH - FABULOUS DOCUMENTARY
Make the time to watch or re-watch this wonderful documentary by filmmaker and writer Daniel Drasin. He has done a great job of sifting through mountains of information to create a clear timeline of the development of communication with the deceased from EVP to direct radio voice and then visual images to the Scole experiment. Daniel will be hosting the discussion on next Sunday's Zoom Global Gathering.

VICKI TALBOTT: COMMUNICATING WITH OUR LOVED ONES BEYOND THE VEIL WITH EVP
When Vicki Talbott's only child, Braden, died in a kayaking accident in 2000, they both already knew about the afterlife and EVP. So it was not a surprise to Vicki when she started receiving messages from Braden on her answerphone. What did surprise her, however, was that Braden had already been coming through to a group of mothers experimenting with EVP whose children called themselves and their parents "The Big Circle". Vicky joined the Big Circle and she and Braden continue to work to communicate and unite children with their parents and teach people about life everlasting. THE VATICAN SUPPORTS EVP

Unknown to many Christians, the Catholic Church has been actively positive and encouraging towards investigations of the electronic voice phenomena. Two of the earliest investigators were Italian Catholic priests, Father Ernetti and Father Gemelli, who came upon the phenomena by chance while they were recording Gregorian chants in 1952. Father Gemelli heard his own father's voice on the tape calling him by a childhood nickname saying 'Zucchini, it is clear, don't you know it is I '. Deeply troubled by Catholic teaching regarding contact with the dead, the two priests visited Pope Pius XII in Rome. The Pope reassured them: "Dear Father Gemelli, you really need not worry about this. The existence of this voice is strictly a scientific fact and has nothing to do with spiritism. DR. ANABELA CARDOSO

Dr. Cardoso began experimenting with EVP in 1997 and soon developed Direct Radio Voices. In 2000 she founded the ITC Journal with an Editorial Board of internationally recognised scientists and researchers of anomalous phenomena. Now retired and living in Spain, Dr. Cardoso remains an inspirational mentor and is passing on her knowledge in a series of videos.

MARK MACY AND WORLD ITC
According to Mark Macy, a leading researcher in this area, throughout the 1990s the research laboratories in Europe received extended, two-way communication with spirit colleagues almost daily through telephone answering machines, radios, and computer printouts. He writes "As a result, for the first time in history, we have been shown direct physical evidence of what life is really like after we shed the physical body." In this video Mark Macy explains how he first got involved and the contribution of George Meek.

PHONE CALLS FROM THE DEAD.

Scott Rogo and Raymond Bayless published examples of calls involving the deceased in their 1979 book Phone Calls from the Dead (read PDF). At the time it was criticised by skeptics as being "unscientific". In 2012- 2024 parapsychologist Dr. Callum E. Cooper revisited the subject in his book Telephone Calls from the Dead (revised edition 2024) and extended the work of Rogo and Bayless with new examples and further analysis. He gives some biographical details of Rogo and Bayless, then traces the history of research into anomalous communication utilising the telephone. In some cases calls were spontaneously received, in others, researchers built equipment – psychic telephones – which they hoped would facilitate contact with the beyond.

PARANORMAL PHONE CALLS RECORDED

During several weeks in 1994 six American ITC researchers received phone calls from fellow researcher Konstantin Raudive who died in 1974. These were George Meek, Mark Macy, Sarah Estep, Sonia Rinaldi, Dr Walter Uphoff, and Hans Heckmann (a close friend and colleague of George Meek). In each case, the phone call mentioned the previous phone calls. Listen to a recording of the call to ITC experimenter George Meek.
German ITC researcher, Adolf Homes, received a text file on his computer in Germany giving details of the phone calls. His computer was not connected to the internet and the message simply appeared on the screen. The message said other successful contacts had been made to China and Japan by telephone and fax.

CONTEMPORARY RESEARCH PROJECT

There are many reports of people receiving contact with loved ones via cell phones. One of the most well known was the case of Charles Peck whose cell phone sent out 35 messages to all his loved ones afer he died in a train crash. Dr. Barušs and Durra Kadiragha completed a pilot study involving 21 participants who claimed to have received cell phone calls (35%), photos or videos (20%), text messages (20%), non-vocal sounds during telephone calls or on voicemail (15%), or extraneous voices during telephone calls (10%), from deceased family or friends. Their findings were presented at an online joint meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration and the Parapsychological Association in July 2021. In 2023 Dr. Imants Barušs was awarded a $44,500 grant by the Bial Foundation to study phenomena. Read more.

Lance began sitting for mediumship development in 1995 and in 2006 turned to EVP. He records EVPs daily as a member of "The Big Circle" and is passionate about helping others to learn this simple way of obtaining evidence of the afterlife. THE POWER OF THE OM CHANT
Jurgen Ziewe explains that he composed this Om Mantra after

he had realised the powerful effect that the mantra had while he was out of his body. He writes:
"The effect is always different and completely unexpected. I compare it to launching a rocket from outer space, where it does not have to overcome the gravity of the Earth. You are instantly carried off into a higher stratum, yet strangely, not always into the pure spiritual realm, because it often depends on where you are mentally at the time, but it will always have a beneficial effect. This song seems very appropriate when we think of EVP or other forms of spirit communication. Over and over we are told that love is the link that brings our loved ones back to comfort us and that where there is love there will never be separation. Stevie Wonder is an incredible musician and songwriter ("You Are the Sunshine of My Life", "I Just Called to Say I Love You", "Isn't She Lovely") having recorded 30 top 10 hits and selling more than 100 million records worldwide. In 2009, Wonder was a passionate worker for civil rights and was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
