COMMENTARY:
THE LOST ART OF CONTEMPLATION Almost
150 years ago, in 1873, a band of high spirits communicated
the following warning through the medium William
Stainton Moses.
“The busy world is ever averse from the things of
spirit life. Men become so absorbed in the material, that
which they can see and grasp, and hoard up, and they forget
that there is a future and spirit life. They become so
earthly that they are impervious to our influence; so
material that we cannot come near them; so full of earthly
interests that there is no room for that which shall endure
when they have passed away.
More than this, the constant preoccupation leaves no time
for contemplation, and the spirit is wasted for lack of
sustenance. The spiritual state is weak; the body is worn
and weary with weight of work and anxious care, and the
spirit is well-nigh inaccessible. The whole air, moreover,
is heavy with conflicting passions, with heart-burnings,
and jealousies, and contentions, and all that is inimical
to us.”
If
this was the situation in 1873, how much worse must it
seem to the spirit world in 2022 with all the electronics and distractions that fill our lives. How many of us these
days make time for "contemplation". How fortunate,
then, are those people who choose (or are forced by life-circumstances)
to step back from the mad whirl and make use of their
time to still the mind and strengthen the spirit.
SCOTT DRUMMOND'S NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE Scott Drummond died for 20 minutes during an operation and found himself observing from above. He describes being in an open field, having a life review and experiencing incredible peace and love.
QUANTUM PHYSICIST RECOGNISES NON-MATERIAL UNIVERSE Professor Fred Alan Wolf claims that consciousness is fundamental and not a product of the brain. He writes: "There is evidence that suggests the existence of a non-material, non-physical universe that has a reality even though it might not as yet be clearly perceptible to our senses and scientific instrumentation. When we consider out-of-body experiences, shamanic journeys and lucid dream states, though they cannot be replicated in the true scientific sense, they also point to the existence of non-material dimensions of reality." (1998:245)
MONTAGUE KEEN ON THE SCOLE EXPERIMENT Montague Keen was a brilliant psychic researcher, journalist, agricultural administrator, magazine editor and farmer. A member of the Council of the Society for Psychical Research for 55 years and secretary of its Survival Research Committee. Together with Professors Arthur Ellison and David Fontana he attended 20 sittings with the Scole Experimenters over two years and was the principal writer of The Scole Report. EMILY FRENCH, ONE OF AMERICA'S GREATEST MEDIUMS Emily S. French (1830-1912), was one of the greatest American independent voice mediums. She was investigated by the famous Buffalo attorney, Edward C. Randall (1860-1935), who initially intended to expose her as a fraud. But, after completing many exacting experiments and testing her powers, he became completely convinced that she was genuine. Mr. Randall became a champion for the cause of survival of death and communication with spirits. During the seances, which were held in complete darkness, the spirit voices would be totally independent of Mrs. French, who was not in trance. The voices would literally manifest from thin air, and carry on conversations with Mr. Randall or whoever else he invited to the seances. A stenographer was employed to take down word-for-word conversations and Mr. Randall asked many searching, important questions, which are all included in the book 'The French Revelation' (White Crow Books) by N.
