COMMENTARY: WHY DO WE ALWAYS QUOTE SILVER BIRCH? Silver Birch is a high-level spirit teacher who has earned the respect and love of millions moved by the power, eloquence, and wisdom of the teachings he brought through trance medium Maurice Barbanell during the period 1930 – 1981.
Maurice Barbanell had high credibility. He was an editor, lecturer, and author on Spiritualism and a friend of every major British medium and researcher.
He sat with the same people in the Hannan Swaffer Home Circle for 61 years. Less than a week after his death at age 79, on July 17, 1981, spirit messages from him were claimed through the mediumship of Gordon Higginson, a close friend.
Silver Birch was an individual who had lived a human life, but he also spoke with a great deal of knowledge and authority that came from his role as a spokesperson for a vast group of high-level spirits: "prophets, seers, sages, wise men of the East and the West, of high and low estate, philosophers of Greece and Rome, Syria, Chaldea, Persia, and Babylon, mingled with those of later generations from Italy, France, and Germany". Hannan Swaffer wrote that over fifty years "I have never known him to forget anything" and "during recent years, I have taken all sorts of people to hear Silver Birch talk—ministers of religion, journalists, people from all parts of the world. I have never heard from any one of them a word of criticism of anything he said".|
Like many millions, we have found that the books of Silver Birch's teachings resonate as deepest truth, and are a wonderful guide to spiritual laws and the purpose of life and the afterlife.

SILVER BIRCH ON THE NEW WORLD Steve Beckow first encountered Spiritualism in 1977. Impressed, he joined a Spiritualist circle led by British medium Irene Griffey. He began to read the various spirit guides and teachers and to take excerpts from their teachings to make databases. SILVER BIRCH MATERIALISED TO BLESS A NEW SEANCE ROOM IN AUCKLAND In 2006 we were fortunate enough to be at the Auckland Spiritualist Alliance Church with physical medium David Thompson (pictured left) for the opening of a purpose-built light-proof seance room inside the main church. As is usual in physical mediumship, the meeting was held in total darkness after precautions were taken against fraud. Silver Birch materialised to bless the new room. He was welcomed by the late Ken Pretty, president of the church. The feeling of love and awe in the room was incredible. WHEN BEING SILENT HAMPERS OUR SPIRITUAL PROGRESS
When an innocent is falsely accused, to be silent is to be unworthy; and
the more powerful that silent person, the greater is his or her
unworthiness:
“Those who do not raise their voice when they know
another is unjustly vilified, those whose lips are sealed
when they know the condemned are innocent, and
those who do not lift a finger when they know the
assailed are upright—one should pity them. For them,
conscience has been stilled by fear, courage has
bowed its head, honor no longer is as dear, and justice

There is a time to speak, and a time to be silent; when it is time to
speak, then silence is a crime".

Our guest this week is Dr. Nick Richbell, an archivist and historian currently working at Clemson University in South Carolina. He recently received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada; his dissertation is a biographical history of the medium Maurice Barbanell and his guide, Silver Birch. Barbanell spent 61 years dedicated to Spiritualism and is considered to be the twentieth century’s leading propagandist of the religion and movement.

Every week participants interested in trying to develop physical mediumship sit in a darkened space in their own homes for 40 minutes, relax, and listen to music. At the moment the group is focusing on table tipping with several members getting phenomena.
A 45-minute session where intermediate to advanced mediums can practice their mediumship in a breakout room with a partner and get feedback.

The Sydney Northern Beaches Spiritualists are organising demonstrations of mediumship free or by donation featuring excellent platform mediums giving readings via zoom to those present. It is designed to be an easy way for people to have a first experience of mediumship. Doors open 15 minutes before starting time.
